The course upgrades the knowledge, understanding, written and oral use of the Czech language, acquired in the undergraduate program.

The first half of the lessons is dedicated to working with scientific and professional texts; students learn about the structure and ways of creating texts of professional and scientific genre. They get acquainted with different stylistic procedures in the formation of texts and in oral presentation (related to professional or scientific genre, such as argumentation, proof, persuasion, polemic, etc.), learn to write various professional and scientific texts independently (professional article, abstract, paper, essay etc.)

In longer speech presentations in the form of a professional paper, thematically related to the studied language, literature and culture, students practice the use of acquired knowledge: clearly and accurately describe complex content, meaningfully linking thematic points; express their thoughts and views accurately and discuss them, support them with arguments.

Students learn how these texts can be meaningfully included in the teaching of Czech as a foreign language, as well as in the preparation of language courses or individual teaching of the Czech language at a higher level (for example in various companies or for individuals preparing for education or work in the Czech environment and for this they need adapted language skills). Students are presented with materials and tools for designing courses at this level, as well as the methodological differences between individual language teaching and an organized course for several participants.

The second half of the lessons is dedicated to the translation of more demanding professional and scientific texts and specific issues in this field. When translating more complex artistic texts, students become acquainted with various translation strategies, transformations in the translation process, the problem of untranslatability in theory and translation practice, the issue of intercultural characteristics in translation, etc.
