Standard Chinese 1

Chinese Language 1 follows two international standards for Chinese as a foreign language. First year students should be able to pass HSK level III and TOCFL basic level.
Students acquire skills needed for communication in everyday situations, learn about 80 common sentence patterns (ICCLE classification), actively use around 1,000 common words (HSK: 600 TOCFL: 960) and passively use part of the vocabulary of HSK 4. They know how to write short texts on selected topics and discuss some minor issues. Course offers some basics of translation from and into the Chinese language and provides cross cultural and linguistic information, needed for the understanding of language and society.
