Slavic linguistics
The methdological framework: The position of historical comparative linguistics; linguistic change and linguistic diversity, theories of language development, language families; theories and methods of comparative linguistics, internal and external linguistic factors of language change: phonetic, morphological, syntactic, semantic, and lexical change, contact linguistics, standardization; genealogical, typological and sociolinguistic classification of languages.
Phonology: Proto-Slavic historical phonology – from Proto-Indo-European to Proto Slavic: satemization, the ruki-rule, Proto-Balto-Slavic sound changes, the open-syllable conspiracy, the rule of syllable harmony, Proto-Slavic sound changes (simplification of consonant clusters, jod-induced palatalization, palatalization of velars, monophthongization, nasalization etc.) – and from Proto Slavic to Old Church Slavic.
Old Church Slavic
The historical framework: The activities of the forefathers of the first Slavic literary language. The beginnings of Old Church Slavic and the development of the first Slavic alphabets. Overview of the oldest Slavic and Cyrillic literary monuments.
Orthography:The Cyrillic and the Glagolitic script. Reading and writing skills. Basic orthographic rules.
Morphology: Nominal and pronominal declension. The verbal system of Old Church Slavic.
